Luc Vernimmen

Luc Vernimmen was born in 1959 in Mortsel, Belgium. He started drawing comics already when he was just a child. So, it was obvious that he has chosen an art formation of free graphics at Sint-Lucas in Antwerp. Later on he followed sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp. His work evolved from the graphic black and white etchings to colorfull oil paintings on canvas. Regularly his works of graphic art and oil paintings can be admired at numerous exhibitions. Luc Vernimmen is working as a freelance illustrator for different publishers and creates illustrations for educational publications and books for young people, but also logos, posters, flyers and other printed matter. His other passion, music, runs like a continuous thread through his oil paintings. Drawings by Luc Vernimmen have been awarded all over the world on the occasion of outstanding cartoon contests: in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Iran and so on (we can mention at least some of them: 2001 – First Prize at the International Cartoon Contest Satyrykon in Legnica (Poland); 2003 – First Prize at the International Cartoon Contest Golagha in Tehran (Iran); 2006 – 3rd prize International Cartoon Contest Zagreb (Croatia); 2007 – 2nd Prize EuroKartoenale Kruishoutem (Belgium); 2008 – 2nd Prize at Lübbener Grafikatur (Germany); 2009 – First Prize at Fruit Cartoonale Sint-Truiden (Belgium); 2013 – Honourable Mention at PortoCartoon Wold Festival 2013 (Portugal); 2014 – Special Prize “Berlin Wall” at the 5th International Cartoon competition Berlin (Germany) and many others). Luc Vernimmen is living and working in Antwerp, Belgium.
