Robert Laszlo SZABO (MARABU)

Robert Laszlo Szabo alias Marabu was born on 1st March 1962 in Bercel, Hungary. He graduated at the Librarian and Literature Teachers Training College in Szombathely. Then he worked as a librarian in the City Library in Vac. In 80’s began to draw cartoons from the direction of political interest. He firstly produced cartoons for student magazines and science fiction comics. In 1989-90 the political regime in Hungary changed and new free newspapers were born. Robert Laszlo Szabo threw up his job and became a freelance artist. For early years of the new democracy he woked for a large number of newspapers. The recent years he works for some respected newspapers and magazines (we can mention at least Nepszabadsag, Kreten, Ludas Matyi,..). From 1992 he is using the artistic name „Marabu“. His prefered genres are political cartoon, philosopher cartoon and comic strip. He has published albums: Marabu album, Sexy Pixy, Hey Dodo! and Mi van, Dodo? For his artworks he obtained press awards: Brenner Prize, Member of the Hungarian Journalist’s Lodge, Hungarian Pulitzer Award and medal Silver ombudsman. He lives and works in Vac, Hungary.
